Official City Mascot

A giant pirate shrimp character with LED eyes and glowing spine lines โ€” designed for the city's annual New Year's Eve drop and now adopted as the official mascot for year-round civic events. Built to be iconic from day one: fun for kids and adults, scalable from crane-mounted spectacle to t-shirts and marketing.

The Vision

I wanted to create a true character โ€” not just a prop, but something that would become iconic. Something fun for both kids and adults, that could live beyond a single night.

The pirate theme plays into the waterfront location. The LED eyes give him life. The spine lines make him festive. And the flat illustration cutout? That's the merch strategy built right into the install.

Built to Last

Shrimpy was engineered for repeated deployment โ€” weather-resistant construction, modular crane mounting, and a custom branded shipping crate.

The blue LED ring boom and glowing fishing reel (sponsored by Florida Public Utilities) frame the character against the night sky. At twilight, the LEDs take over and Shrimpy comes alive.

  • LED pixel eyes with programmable patterns

  • Crane-mounted with blue LED boom
